Sail Newport and the International J/22 Class Association announce the J/22 Legends Regatta. The regatta will take place on Monday, September 30, one day prior to the J/22 World Championship, and will be sailed on the waters of Narragansett Bay just off the historic shores of Fort Adams. Former World, North American and Midwinter Champions, and long-time Class members who have been instrumental in the 30-year success of this popular one-design are invited to compete for the ultimate bragging rights, and participate in the opening ceremony of the J/22 World Championship. The Legends Regatta will be sailed in Sail Newport’s brand new 14-boat fleet of J/22s built by US Watercraft of Warren, RI. The J/22 designed by Rodney Johnstone in 1983 has grown to over 1,600 boats sailing in 65 active fleets in 18 countries on three continents.
