For the first time in International J/22 Class history, the World Championship was sailed in Naples Italy, hosted by the Lega Navale Italiana Napoli. The Gulf of Naples hosted a week of great sailing for the 2025 J/22 World Championship October 11-19. Four nations participated: ITA, FRA, GER, NED. A total of nine races were held: three on Monday, three on Tuesday and three on Thursday. On Wednesday, the fleet was grounded due to a lack of wind, and on Friday, the wind failed to exceed 4 knots, rendering racing impossible. On Thursday, despite rain and challenging conditions, the wind held, and the racecourse provided some spectacular challenges. In the end, the final standings were:
1st – Jean-Michel Lautier, The Netherlands
2nd – Andreas Dillmann, Germany
3rd – Thorsten Spotter, Germany
4th – Dario Desiderio, Italy
5th – Julia Van Den Heuvel, The Netherlands
It was a balanced and highly technical World Championship. The awards ceremony celebrated not only the results but also the values of sailing: respect, fairness and friendship between crews. Special thanks to the event partners LEXUS and Sistemi & Soluzioni for their support, and to all the organizational and regatta staff. For more event information, visit Racing Rules of Sailing.
