Twenty-one teams representing 10 states took to the waters of Tawas Bay for the inaugural day of the J/22 North American Championship in Michigan. Light air conditions only permitted two races, the first dominated by Travis Odenbach’s Honeybadger (Rochester Yacht Club) and the second dominated by Chase Quinn’s Osprey (Bristol Yacht Club) with crew Nick Cromwell and Jimmy Kennedy. Chase Quinn was also awarded the coveted pig for “Boat of the Day” for today’s solid performance in his first major J/22 class event. Kurt Taken-Holtze’s Turn Down For What placed second in both races. Racing was then called for the day as winds dropped to 2-3 knots.

Tawas Bay Yacht Club facilitated two days of seamless registration and inspection, including a practice race and an opening ceremony on Wednesday. Racing continues through Saturday. Complete event details may be found at https://www.regattanetwork.com/event/23836.
