Travemunde Week took place off Travemunde, Germany for a fleet of 10 J/22s. Travemunde Week is famous for its huge regatta for over a dozen one-design dinghy Classes and its week-long festival ashore featuring live music, entertainment, food & drinks. This year’s regatta had to contend with an enormous high-pressure system that had planted itself over Scandinavia and was affecting the sailing conditions on the Baltic Sea. A combination of heat and light air conspired to keep the racing to a minimum. In the end, five races were completed for this year’s J/22 German Open. Winning the regatta was Wolf Jeschonnek’s GER 1513 crew (Frank Sturm & Klaus Lund) with a record 2-1-3-1-2 for 6 points net. Taking the silver medal was Thorsten Spotter’s GER 1449 team (Florian Buchs & Hannes Ranke) with a 1-4-2-3-3 tally for 9 points net. Then, rounding out the podium to take the bronze medal on a tiebreaker was Andreas Dillmann’s GER 1411 crew (Silke Basedow & Julia Harder) with a 3-2-4-4-1 scoreline for 10 points net. The balance of the top five include the French team of Reiner Brockerhoff on FRA 1444 that lost the tiebreaker at 10 points apiece to take fourth place, while Hardy Kleinfeld’s GER 1619 crew took fifth place with 22 points net.
